Experience

  • Enjoy your stay in Puno with an excursion to the Uros Floating Islands, where you can meet the local community and learn about their fascinating way of life in the middle of the highest lake in the world.

Full description

Explore one of Puno's wonders with an excursion to the Uros and Taquile Islands on Lake Titicaca. Explore the floating islands of the lake and learn more about the lives of the people who live on the islands of the highest lake in the world.

Begin the tour with pickup from your hotel in Puno or the Puno bus station, and head to the pier or main port. The excursion begins with a performance of typical Puno dances aboard the tour boat, and then travels to the Uros floating islands, now considered the National Reserve of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Learn about the Uros people, who still maintain their unique culture and traditions, as well as about artisanal fishing, especially for carachi and silverside. See some of the 75 islands that are currently inhabited. Sail by boat for 2.5 hours to the natural island of Taquile, where you can observe the mountain range. Learn more about the town of Taquile and its famous textiles. Enjoy a 2-hour visit, a delicious 1-hour traditional meal overlooking the lake, before returning to the bus station or your accommodation. Experience traditional dances from the Puno region aboard the tourist boat.
